Delhi to Taj Mahal Sunrise Trip

1 Day Delhi - Agra

Tour Overview

I have been taking travellers to the Taj Mahal at sunrise for over 30 years, and I will tell you something honestly — the first time you see that white marble catching the earliest light of the morning, with the mist still sitting on the Yamuna River and almost no other visitors around, is one of those moments you genuinely do not forget. The photographs people take at that hour look nothing like the midday tourist shots you have seen everywhere. The monument is quieter, softer, and somehow even more beautiful.

This private day tour from Delhi is designed specifically around that experience. We leave Delhi at 2:30 AM so we arrive at the Taj Mahal gates the moment they open at sunrise. You get the first two hours inside before the crowds build up. Then a proper breakfast, a guided tour of Agra Fort, and a comfortable drive back to Delhi — all done by late afternoon. If you only have one day for Agra, this is the tour to do it properly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do you depart Delhi at 2:30 AM for this tour?

The Taj Mahal is at its most beautiful — and least crowded — in the first hour after sunrise. To be there when the gates open we need to leave Delhi around 2:30 AM. The drive takes approximately 3 hours on the Yamuna Expressway. Most guests tell us the early start is absolutely worth it. You can sleep in the car on the way down and have the Taj Mahal largely to yourself for the first hour.

What time does the Taj Mahal open?

The Taj Mahal opens at sunrise, which varies by season — roughly 6:00 AM in winter and 5:30 AM in summer. The monument closes on Fridays for prayers. We factor all of this into your tour schedule automatically — you do not need to check or plan anything yourself.

Is this tour suitable for families with children?

Yes, many families do this tour with children. The main consideration is the 2:30 AM departure — younger children often sleep through the drive and wake up just as you arrive at Agra. We can arrange child-friendly meal options and keep the pace comfortable throughout the day.

Can I visit Fatehpur Sikri on this tour?

Yes — Fatehpur Sikri, the abandoned Mughal capital, is only 40 kilometres from Agra and can be added to this tour on the return journey. It adds approximately 2 hours to your day. Just mention this when you send your enquiry and we will adjust the itinerary accordingly.

How is this different from your same day Agra tour by car?

The key difference is timing. Our same day Agra tour by car departs at a more comfortable morning hour and visits the Taj Mahal later in the day. This sunrise tour is specifically for travellers who want the early morning experience at the Taj Mahal — fewer crowds, better light, and a completely different atmosphere. If the sunrise experience matters to you, this is the right tour.

What should I wear and bring for this tour?

Comfortable walking shoes are essential as there is a fair amount of walking at both the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort. Bring a light jacket for the early morning — Agra can be cool before sunrise even in spring and autumn. Inside the Taj Mahal complex you will be given shoe covers so your footwear is not an issue. We provide bottled water throughout the day.
